Weekend Playlist: This Week’s Indie Game Releases – February 4, 2022

February kicks off a lighter week in the indie gaming scene, but there are still plenty of new releases (and games that are easy on the wallet) that you should check out this weekend.

Here are our picks for this week’s indie Weekend Playlist.

Ancient: Legacy of Azul (PC)

Ancient: Legacy of Azul – from developer/publisher Cosmic Spud – looks like a high-fantasy version of Risk of Rain. The rogue-lite features unlockable characters and items as you fight off enemies, die (probably), and try again as you uncover the mystery of the world. Ancient: Legacy of Azul will launch on February 4 for PC via Steam.

Fayburrow (PC)

Developed by The Fayburrow Troupe, Fayburrow is actually a 3rd year student project from The Animation Workshop in Denmark. You take on the role of amateur detective Beatrice as she and her magical fairy, Lu, investigate the disappearance of her friend who invited her to return to her hometown of Fayburrow. The atmospheric game looks like a Disney film with an emphasis on characters and story. Fayburrow is free-to-play right now and is available on PC via Steam.

The Heilwald Loophole (PC)

I’m a sucker for PS1-style games, so, of course, The Heilwald Loophole piqued my interest. Developer by sole-indie developer, Jan Malitschek, the horror game looks like something that you may have played back in the late 90’s, but with an added twist on the “hospital/asylum and being chased by crazed nurses and doctors” genre: it is impossible to actually die thanks to the mysterious loophole that you’ve found yourself in. The Heilwald Loophole will launch on February 4 for PC via Steam.

Kiospoly (PC)

Looking for a board game to play, but don’t have anyone to play with? Look no further than Kiospoly – from developer/publisher Nautlander. The Monopoly-inspired board game title allows you to play against bots, as well as online with up to six other players. Kiospoly is available now on PC via Steam, and is currently on sale for 15%-off.

Finally, here are a few other indie games that are releasing in Early Access or are making their debut on new platforms:

  • Active Neurons – Puzzle Game – Port available now for Xbox Series X|S
  • Dreamscaper – Port available now for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S via Game Pass
  • Nostalgic Train – Port available now for Xbox One
  • Webbed – Port available now for PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch
