The Pixel Mechanical Keyboard by MelGeek is a customizable, LEGO-compatible mechanical keyboard that is great for gamers and streamers alike. This keyboard has several features that you would expect in a top-tier keyboard, including hot-swappable keys, RGB backlighting, and a gasket mount that minimizes noise. What sets it apart, however, is its LEGO-inspired design, allowing you be a kid again when customizing your keyboard.
I’ll admit it, when I first saw the MelGeek Pixel Keyboard, I was a bit skeptical. But I’m happy to report that this keyboard is not only good, but great. And being able to play around with LEGOs and customizing my keyboard is an added bonus (especially during those pesky work meetings).
The Lego-Inspired Design is Genuinely Cool
As a lifelong LEGO fan, I was immediately drawn to the Pixel’s LEGO-inspired design. And it’s not just a gimmick — LEGOS actually assist with the keyboard’s functionality. For instance, I noticed that the flip-down stands on the bottom of the keyboards were, well… not there. I always expect a keyboard to have these little stands, so I was a bit confused as to where they were.
Then, I realized that I could just create my own! Using the provided plastic bricks, I was able to create my own stands and add them to the bottom of the keyboard, ensuring that it would be perfectly angled for my needs.

Hot-Swappable Keys Provide Plenty Of Customization Options

One of my favorite features of this keyboard is its hot-swappable keys. This means that you can remove each individual key and replace it with a new one, which is great when you want to change up the look of your keyboard or simply need to replace a broken or damaged key. The keys are all very easy to remove, too.
The default key covers pop off themselves as well, revealing a LEGO-style brick that can be used to customize the key. In theory, you could replace each key cover with a LEGO minifig and still be able to press each button. It’s a hilarious thought, albeit one that isn’t exactly functional. But, hey… get as wild as you want. No rules here!
Making It Your Own

Speaking of customization, the best part is that because the keys are modular, you can literally build any pattern or three-dimensional shape you want on the keyboard. And if you get tired of one design, you can just swap out the keys for new ones. Geekmade also has an online design tool that lets you create your own custom designs.
There’s plenty of space on the perimeter of the keyboard to add LEGOs for further customization. I had a great time creating my personal design and letting my inner LEGO geek out. I even created a fight scene between some astronauts and some pirates from the random assortment of LEGOs that I found in my kiddo’s room.
You’re also able to use the Pixel in either a wired or wireless setup (via Bluetooth and 2.4G), depending on your needs. And if you like to be a bit more hands-on with the backlighting of your keyboard, you can customize each individual key’s RGB lighting.

Great for Gaming

In addition to being visually stunning, the Pixel is also a great gaming keyboard. It has a fast response time and anti-ghosting capabilities, so you never have to worry about missed keystrokes. Plus, the gasket mount ensures that your keys are quiet and always in the right position, even during intense gaming sessions.
The Verdict
The Pixel Mechanical Keyboard performs all of its keyboard-related duties admirably, whether you’re swapping out components or using it as-is. The selling point, though, is its LEGO-inspired design. I had a great time customizing and personalizing my keyboard, and would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking for an extra touch of fun in their day-to-day affairs. It’s the perfect way to escape from your workaday grind and revel in your inner child once more.
