31 Days Of Halloween: The Medium

If there’s one thing I’m good at, it’s watching intense and disturbing videos just before going to bed. I have no business doing so, since my dreams are already as messed up and abstract enough as they area… I guess we can just call it a character flaw.

Such a situation occurred for my first viewing of the reveal trailer for Bloober Team’s upcoming horror title, The Medium, which is slated for a Holiday/Christmas 2020 release.

As the second Bloober Team title to make the list in our 31 Days of Halloween, it’s pretty hard to imagine that the game is going to let down fans of the horror genre, especially considering the talented team backing it up.

In addition to Bloober Team – a studio already well-versed within the realm of horror video games – The Medium will also feature Akira Yamaoka, of Silent Hill fame, who is working alongside Bloober Team’s Arkadiusz Reikowski to create a “dual“ score to fit The Medium’s two different atmospheres – a world of the living, and a more dark and sinister spirit world. Prolific voice actor, Troy Baker, will lend his talents as the main antagonist of the game, while Mary Elizabeth McGlynn (who has previously worked with Yamaoka) will provide vocals for the game‘s soundtrack.

In addition to being excited about the game, CEO at Bloober Team, Piotr Babieno, explained the overarching goal with The Medium in terms of focus and design.

Every one of our games has a central theme that drives its creative and technological design. In The Medium, we focus on perspective and perception. When you change your point of view, you discover that things are more complicated and nuanced than you initially thought. The Medium is our most ambitious game ever and we can’t wait to show you how we’re translating this vision into a psychological horror.

“The inclusion of the legendary Akira Yamaoka – best known for his work on the Silent Hill franchise – is a dream come true. We’ve been inspired by many of the previous games he has worked on and are thrilled to bring a new one to life with The Medium.

The Medium arguably gives off Silent Hill vibes, along with some similar looking stylings to The Last of Us: Part 2. The world itself looks incredible, as do the graphics, which makes sense since the game will be releasing on Xbox Series X, in addition to PC via Steam.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to have nightmares just from watching the two-minute trailer. Sweet dreams!
