There seems to be something of a revitalization of Japanese folklore being the focus of horror games recently, but Ikai – from developer Endflame and publisher PM Studios – has been in on the trend for well over a year. Originally slated for a 2021 release, the psychological horror title ended up being delayed. However, the team has officially confirmed that Ikai will now launch on March 29, 2021.

Ikai will be available on PC, PS5, PS4, and Nintendo Switch, and will come with digital and physical purchase options. The physical version of the game – which is now available for pre-order ($34.99) and will release at the same time as the digital version – will include a sticker sheet and postcard.

In the Feudal Era-set Ikai, you’ll explore and try to survive inside a massive and dimly-lit Shinto shrine, defenseless against all of the Japanese spirits, monsters, and Yokais that you’ll encounter along the way. The fear in Ikai is very real, and from having played the demo myself, I can say that it’s the quiet and feeling of utter dread that drives the game’s terrifying experience.

Ikai will launch on March 29 for PC, PS5, PS4, and Nintendo Switch. A free-to-play demo is available now on Steam (and is well worth horror fans’ time). Pre-orders for the physical version of the game is available from Amazon, GameStop, Best Buy, and Video Games Plus (International).
