Metal Gear Solid Makes Its Way To GOG.com (!)

Grab your rations and C4. It’s time to head back to the Alaskan coast, as some of your favorite games in the Metal Gear franchise are now available on GOG.com.

Specifically, three classic Metal Gear games – Metal Gear, Metal Gear Solid, and Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance – along Konami Collector’s Series: Castlevania & Contra have been added to the digital distribution platform.

If you’re like me, you’ve likely searched for a (legitimate) PC version of the early Metal Gear games to no avail, which makes their addition to GOG all the much more appreciated. On top of it all, though, the price for the DRM-free titles is incredibly reasonable. Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance both run at $9.99, while Metal Gear – which was originally released in 1987 for the MSX2 home computer – is available for $5.99 (the same price as Konami Collector’s Series: Castlevania & Contra).

Metal Gear is considered by many to be one of the first stealth games ever created, with the games that followed taking stealth combat and gameplay to an entirely new level.

GOG has had previous success with restoring other classics such as Blade Runner and Diablo, so as incredibly exciting as it is, it’s not necessarily surprising for the platform to bring back the first games in the Metal Gear franchise.

I’m not entirely sure how the Psycho Mantis boss battle will work without an original PlayStation controller, but I’m very excited to find out!
